Split Rock Lighthouse

Split Rock Lighthouse is located in Two Harbors, Minnesota on the shore of Lake Superior. M&A was part of the team charged with completely renovating lighthouse visitor center. The new exhibit tells the story the site’s history and lighthouse creation, with a focus on those making a living from the lake and those who call it home. An underlying exhibit goal was to tell stories of the lake and the lighthouse through first-person accounts.

Split Rock is one of the top historic sites in Minnesota attracts an enormous number of tourists each year. The heart of the exhibit is a full-scale replica of the Third Order Fresnel Lens that sits atop the lighthouse. Due to the location of the original lens in the lighthouse tower, it is difficult to view for those with limited mobility. The replica lens now grants accessibility to all visitors to the site.
